This artwork is a generative calligraphic visual inspired by the historical and cultural essence of “The Ninth Year of Yonghe” (353 AD), when Wang Xizhi wrote the legendary “Lanting Xu” (Preface to the Orchid Pavilion Gathering).

Utilizing Unreal Engine and Kinect for motion tracking, it allows a performer’s real-time movements (visible in the lower frame) to directly influence the animated shadow puppets on screen.
